Relative fluorescent quantitation is a technique used in a variety of fragment analysis applications that require peak-height comparisons across samples. Among these applications are screening for loss of heterozygosity using microsatellites or SNPs, aneuploidy assays, and detection of large chromosomal deletions.

Electropherogram of a microsatellite marker in DNA from a healthy (Figure 1, top panel) and tumor sample (Figure 1, bottom panel) run on an Applied Biosystems Genetic Analyzer. The reduced peak height in the tumor sample indicates potential Loss of Heterozygosity in the sample.
